Smart Design Dishes at International Home + Housewares Show

Erica Eden will present Design and Gender: Thinking About Sex at the Int’l Home + Housewares Show on Monday, March 23rd.

As a founding member of Smart’s internal group The Femme Den and senior industrial designer, Erica Eden, will present thought-provoking insights on what it takes to appeal to female consumers.

Building on insights presented at the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Erica will share the Femme Den’s perspective on designing for home and housewares with an eye to using women as a filter for good design.

The session will take place as part of the Educational Seminar track in the Housewares Design Theater on Monday, March 23, 2009 from 12:30 PM to 1:20 PM at McCormick Place 2301 S. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, Illinois 60616.

About Femme Den:

The Femme Den is an internal movement at Smart Design dedicated to studying gender through design. Our independent research and expertise in this area enables a deeper understanding of psychological differences between men and women and how this is affecting the way they interact with products. We believe that designing with ideas and methodologies that appeal to women will result in design solutions that are more appealing to everyone. Within the last six months, members of Femme Den have made keynote presentations at the IDSA conference, presented at CES in Las Vegas, conducted a workshop at the Design & Emotion conference in Hong Kong, and presented at the Outdoor Retailer Show.
